Recipes - Maldon Smoked Salt

Here are some tips, advice, and tasty ideas on how to make the best of the variety of interesting salts now available.

By adding a little sea salt to a dish or mixed with other ingredients, it can add an immediate burst of flavour. Salt heightens sweetness and brightens any acid in a dish.

Try sprinkling a little flavoured salt onto a fresh tomato salad or over vegetables before grilling, or sprinkled over citrus fruits or other fruits such as melon.

For great salt baked vegetables using turnips, celeriac for example, lightly brush the washed and unpeeled vegetables with a little olive oil, before burying them in plain or a Maldon Flavoured Sea Salt. Mound the salt around the vegetable, and then bake until just cooked. Cool, peel them, then slice, topped with a little butter.

For a great pre dinner nibble to serve with drinks, roast some unsalted cashews in a pan with some Maldon Smoked Sea Salt Flakes and mix for one minute. Add some freshly popped popcorn, toss together and serve.

Try spreading some favourite crisp bread or focaccia slices with hummus, followed by a drizzle of olive oil and a good scattering of Maldon Smoked Sea Salt, a real revelation.

Maldon Smoked Sea Salt is great used to season pork chops, I make a rub mix using toasted fennel seeds, garlic and lots of herbs, made into a paste with a little olive oil. Brush liberally over the chops as they are grilling.

Try replacing the salt in your favourite bread recipe with Maldon Smoked Sea Salt for a really interesting taste.

Season some homemade mayonnaise with a little Maldon Smoked Sea Salt Flakes and lemon juice, great with crisp fried oysters in batter or panko style breadcrumbs.
